Özet

In this study, it was aimed to examine reading attainments of the elementary and secondary school Turkish lessons and 5-6th grades reading skills courses within the framework of international competencies. Apart from the curriculum that has been started to be implemented by 2019, the previous Turkish lesson curricula were also discussed and the curricula were examined within the framework of the competencies in PISA and PIRLS applications. As a result of the analysis of the curriculums, although the 2019 primary school Turkish curriculum did not meet the intermediate and advanced level PIRLS skills, the rate of meeting the PIRLS skills was higher than the previous program. As a result of the examination of 5-8th grade Turkish curriculum in terms of PISA reading proficiency, it was determined that the PISA competencies decreased by half in 2019, compared to the previous program. When the results of the reading skills course were taken into consideration, it was concluded that the curriculum had a more competent structure in terms of PISA proficiency than the 5-8th grades Turkish course curriculum. © 2021.
