Paleokarstic valleys provide clues as to the geomorphologic evolution of karstic formations such as dolines, katavothres and uvalas in addition to other characteristics of valleys. Thus, identification of the characteristics of paleokarstic valleys is important to determine the hydrological and hydrographical development of the early drainage network and to shed light on the paleo-geographical development of the regionPaleokarstic valleys present important clues in establishing the early drainage system in an area and in explaining the new karstic formations (dolines, katavothres and uvalas) in its center. The Upper Miocene paleokarstic valley system identified in Middle Amanos Mountains was investigated for these reasons. The above mentioned paleokarstic valley was formed as a result of the rise in the area due to tectonic movements which caused the surface flows to follow underground courses due to newly formed linearity and these factors caused the previous valley system to suspend which led to karstification. The ongoing karstification during the same process resulted in some kartic formations such as dolines, katavothres and uvalas. The poljes which are the modern day traces of the surface karst of the paleokarstic valley were also formed during his phase. These poljes were seized by the rivers during Upper Pliocene- Pleistosen period and gained the characteristics of fluvial-karstic depression as a result of connections to outer drainage. Previous studies were first examined in the framework of the study, past and present topography maps were probed, satellite photos were inspected and new maps were created with the help of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in order to present the topic more clearly. These maps were transferred to study field to inspect their suitability/relevance. Identification of other paleokarstic valleys in the area by investigations will help reveal the karstic potential in Turkey and will support overcoming the deficiencies in the field. New studies that will be undertaken in the resource area to determine the borders of the paleokarstic valley are important to identify the existence of other paleovalleys.
