While there were games that were played by people in order to pass the time the safavids, there were also big organizations which were held by the Safavid shahs in order to amuse the people. The Safavid shahs took great pleasure ın watching these performances and sometimes they participated in the games themselves. These performances were also used as a means to entertain foreign ambassadors. There were various forms of entertainment that were open to the public and performed at festivals in the capital. Illusionists, acrobats, animal shows etc. were the basis of such entertainment. When these kinds of performances were held they attracted the attention of the travellers who came to Safavids’ lands, most notably in the 17th century.
