Özet

Two essential tools for successfully optimizing a grillage are to evaluate both size and layout variables and to use an efficient optimization method suitable for this problem. In this study, a binary variant of the Jaya algorithm called JayaX is used to optimize the size and layout of grillages simultaneously. JayaX algorithm employs the logic exclusive or operator to balance exploration and exploitation during the optimization process. This study proposes a different approach for using the modification ratio in the exclusive or operator. The layout and size variables of the optimization problem are the number of beams in both directions and the cross sections of these beams, respectively. The minimum-weighted structure is aimed in the study considering displacement and strength constraints according to AISC-LRFD. Three examples from the literature were optimized using the coded algorithm. The efficiency of JayaX algorithm in a structural optimization problem and the effect of the simultaneous approach in grillage optimization are revealed. Furthermore, the importance of layout variables in grillage optimization is also clarified.
