Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to investigate whether there were significant differences in terms of socioeconomic variables according to gender in overweight and obese individuals. The data obtained from a total of 17,084 people who participated in the Turkey Health Survey-2019, conducted by TUIK, were used in the study. The statistical analysis of the data was performed using the "IBM SPSS Statistics" program. The ratios and chi-square test results between male and female participants with a BMI over 25 were presented in tabular form. In the study, it was found that the rate of overweight and obese individuals is higher in men aged 15-44, married/divorced/single, with a middle school education or higher, high income, employed, showing low physical activity, consuming fruits/vegetables/soft drinks frequently, using medication by choice, and regularly smoking and drinking. On the other hand, for individuals over 45 years old, widowed, with primary school education or less, and not employed, the rate of overweight and obese individuals is higher in women.
