Breast milk, with its nutritional, immunological, and anti-infectious properties, is always an indispensable food for infants due to the many diseases it can protect against in infancy, childhood, and even adulthood. Therefore, exclusive breastfeeding for about the first 6 months and continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods for up to 2 years of age or older is advised [1-3]. This chapter summarizes the immunological and anti-infectious benefits of breastfeeding. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023. All rights reserved.
