St. John's Wort also known as Hypericum perforatum L. in Latin has various different names in Turkish such as "'Kılıç otu, binbirdelik otu, kuzukıran, kan otu, yara otu ve mayasıl otu". Hypericum perforatum L. is distributed many areas throughout of Turkey. St. John's Wort which is an effective medicinal plant is widely used as an herbal remedy to treat wounds and burns including the treatment of many other diseases such as depression, cancer, diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases, pancreas and liver disorders, ulcer, dysentery, bronchitis and throat disorders. One of the components of St. John's Wort, which contains numerous chemical components, is essential oils. The plants are very effective for the treatment of diseases thanks to these essential oils. There are a broad range of studies of this herb both in Turkey and the World. However, there is no comprehensive study which includes the region of Thrace. This study was conducted in between June and August, 2021, to determine the chemical composition of the essential oil of Hypericum perforatum L. species growing naturally in the Thrace Region (Tekirdağ, Kırklareli, Edirne, Çanakkale (Gallipoli peninsula), Istanbul European side). The essential oils of the collected samples of St. John's wort plant was extracted by hydrodistillation method. The components of the essential oils were analyzed using the method of GC-MS. 50-64 components were identified in the essential oils that were analyzed. The main components of the essential oil of the plant are sesquiterpenes (ß- caryophyllene, caryophyllene oxide, ß-selinene, ?-selinene, ß-farnesene, ?-amorphene, Eudesma-4(14),11-diene, spathulenol) and hydrocarbons (1-tetradecanol, 1-tridecanol, Cycloundecane, 1,1,2-trimethyl) as well as diterpenler(phytol), alcohols (alpha cadinol), oil acids (Pentadecanoic acid, Palmitic acid, 9,12-Octadecadienoic acide…)
