Energy is an important element needed in all areas of life. Considering population growth and technological developments, energy demand is constantly increasing. The relationship between energy consumption and economic growth is of great importance for countries to determine their investment policies, long and short term targets. The importance of energy in economic policies was not recognized until the 1970s as it was considered as an intermediate input in production. After the oil crisis in the 1970s, the importance of energy was understood and the number of studies examining the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth increased. In recent years, energy crises have been experienced on a global basis due to epidemics, wars, etc., and it is of great importance for countries to determine their energy policies correctly in this process. In this study, whether there is a relationship between energy consumption and economic growth for 21 selected OECD countries is examined, and if there is a relationship, the direction of this relationship is tried to be explained using data between 1965 and 2021. The time series used in the analysis were first subjected to stationarity test; Granger causality analysis for stationary series and Toda-Yamamoto causality test for non-stationary series were implemented with the help of VAR model. It has been concluded that in 9 countries, there is a causality from energy consumption to economic growth, in 1 country there is a causality from economic growth to energy consumption, in 1 country there is a bilateral causality and in 10 countries there is no causality between energy consumption and economic growth.
