dc.description.abstractRisk management strategies in agriculture are an increasingly important theme. Farmers are faced with many kind of different risk and uncertain situations which can be classified as: production and technology risks, finance risks, marketing and price risk, and human being origin risks. Farmers apply various risk management strategies such as: product differentiation, stable production operations, contract production, and insurance. By using one or more of the risk management strategies, farms' income volatilities and financial needs can be minimised. To avoid the production risk of these firms, agritourism can play an important role in risk management to provide regular and extra income opportunity. Agritourism is briefly defined as the practices to attract visitors to areas that are used for agricultural purposes. These visits can also contribute to economic sustainability. The purpose of this paper is to measure farmers' perceptions for agritourism as a risk management strategy in Tekirdag. Moreover, the study makes some suggestions to the firms for popularising agritourism. According to the sampling, it interviewed 118 farmers with a 90% confidence level. Farmer' perceptions on agricultural tourism has been mapped by applying "Multidimensional Scaling Analysis" (ALSCAL MDS). In the generated spatial map, the purposes of agritourism are shown, in general and special purpose (dimension 2), and important and unimportant purposes (dimension 1). Farmers can expect the elimination of important problems of the country and regional agriculture such as the migration of young people, financial problems, and risk management against increasing natural disasters by agricultural tourism. © 2016 Peter Lang GmbH.
