Determination of Traffic Noise Pollution of the City of Tekirdag

Abstract

Noise is a phenomenon that has physiological and psychological effects on human. It is a significant environmental problem in many urban areas. There are different kinds of noise sources. Especially, traffic noise is very effective in the center of cities. This problem has not been properly recognised despite the fact that it is steadily growing in developing countries Today there are several studies to decrease the negative effects of noise on human health. Noise maps are one of these studies. These maps are a cartographic representation of the noise level distribution in a determined area and period of time. The aim of the study is to determine the traffic noise in Tekirdag and to investigate possible solutions to reduce the traffic noise. Noise levels e measured on 54 different points between mornings (8:00-9:00), noon (12:00-13:00) and evening (17:00-18:00) hours and the results will be analysed statistically and also these values will be entered and analysed via Geographical Information System (GIS).
