In this context, a solution should he produced by integrating the concepts and principles of sustainability and ecology into all components of the city. Within the scope of the study, urban green areas, one of the landscape components that have an active role in ensuring sustainability in urban areas of Tekirdag, have been investigated. Regular visits were made to these areas and examinations were made, the plant inventory was prepared and the suitability for use and adaptation of these plants were evaluated, By this means, the current conditions of open green areas were determined in terms of ensuring sustainability in urban ecosystems, their deficiencies were determined and recommendations were made. Plant density and species diversity are very low in most of the gardens examined for this research. Besides, it was determined that the design principles were not taken into consideration in the use of plant material and that they were planted randomly. It was determined that the compositions that were created for partially aesthetic purposes were not brought together to emphasize the visual values of the plants and there was confusion. Considering the adaptation status to the field, it is seen that plants suitable for Tekirdag climate and ecological conditions are mostly preferred. However, it has been observed that there are problems in the adaptation of the some taxa to the climate of the city, which is exposed to intense winds, as they need to be planted in sheltered places.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessSustainabilityUrban areasGreen areasTekirdagNatural-EnvironmentStressSustainability and Open Green Areas in Urban Ecosystems Tekirdag ExampleArticle30323432355Q4WOS:000629181400006
