Özet
Hospitals and healthcare facilities produce a variety of waste products namely; domestic waste, packaging waste, hazardous waste and medical waste (MW). Consequently, waste management in hospitals can be considered a challenging task due to the possibility of mixing different waste streams. MW or the mixing of hazardous waste with various waste streams present a risk to human health and the environment. The aim of this study is to evaluate current waste management performance of the Dr. Ismail Fehmi Cumalioglu City Hospital in Tekirdag-Turkiye. Results show that the hospital is well prepared for MW management and has been successful in terms of separation, collection, storage and transportation of various types of waste. However, there is still room for waste prevention and reduction to comply with waste management hierarchy especially for domestic and packaging waste categories.
