The increase in world's population keeps reducing the natural resources. However, the usage of the limited resources must be restricted in order to sustain their usage for longer time and the search for alternative resources is inevitable. At the end of the search for new sources, biogas production from organic wastes can be evaluated as alternative source. Use of organic waste for biogas production provides waste treatment as well as energy generation from wastes which can be considered as an efficient waste management step. The most commonly organic waste used in biogas production is animal wastes. While using animal manure using for biogas production, maturing and using as cropland earlier in the field can be possible, during fermentation process. Thus, biogas production process both leads to energy generation from organic wastes and usage of wastes in soil as fertilizer. As a consequence of these aspects, biogas production from animal wastes enhances the agricultural yields and develops an efficient waste management process. In this study, to evaluate and mapping the potential of biogas from animal wastes in Thrace Region was aimed. For this purpose, the biogas (methane) amounts were calculated by the help of the data for number of small cattle, cattle, and poultry animals provided by Turkish Statistics Agency (TUIK). Furthermore, the energy equivalents of the calculated biogas amounts were evaluated. According to the data obtained from TUIK, the number of animals in Thrace Region, in 2015, was 443.057 for cattle animals, 1,033,578 for small cattle animals, and 1,445,380 for poultry animals. Based on these values, energy equivalent of biogas can be produced from animal wastes was calculated as 2427.81 TJ/year.
