Öğe Maladaptive Daydreaming in Psoriasis Patients(Galenos Publ House, 2024) Zorlu, Ozge; Beyazyuz, Elmas; Aytekin, Sema; Albayrak, HulyaAim: Many psychiatric disorders are associated with psoriasis. A 16-item self-report maladaptive daydreaming (MD) scale (MDS-16) is described as a screening tool for MD. We aimed to explore whether MDS-16 scores differed in psoriasis patients compared to healthy individuals, hypothesizing higher scores and higher rates of probable maladaptive daydreamers (MDers) among psoriazis patients. Materials and Methods: We included 184 psoriazis patients and 93 age- and sex-matched people without any cutaneous disorders in this casecontrol, cross-sectional, and questionnaire-based study. Dermatology Quality of Life Instrument in Turkish (TQoL) and MDS-16 were applied. We considered the participants with a total MDS-16 score >50 as probable MDers. Results: Total MDS-16 score was higher in the psoriasis group (p=0.038). However, the difference between the frequencies of probable MDers was not significant (p=0.234). According to the multivariable analysis, psoriasis was not found as an independent risk factor for being probable MDer. In the psoriasis group, total MDS-16 scores were positively correlated with TQoL scores (r (s )=0.259, p=0.001), which were significantly higher in probable MDers (p=0.032). Conclusion: The association between psoriasis and MD may be related to the level of the impact of psoriasis on the quality of life.Öğe Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio, Neutrophil-to-Monocyte Ratio, Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio, and Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index in Psoriasis Patients: Response to Treatment with Biological Drugs(Mdpi, 2023) Albayrak, HulyaBackground: Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated skin disease in which systemic inflammation plays an important role in its pathogenesis. In recent years, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), neutrophil-to-monocyte ratio (NMR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) were shown to be important indicators of inflammation. This study aimed to investigate the NLR, NMR, PLR, and SII levels in psoriasis patients treated with biological agents. Method: Clinical and biochemical data of 209 patients who received systemic therapy for psoriasis were obtained by retrospectively reviewing their medical records. The NLR, NMR, PLR, and SII values were calculated from the hemogram values of the patients. Results: In the third month of follow-up, the mean CRP, NLR, NMR, PLR, and SII values were significantly decreased compared with the baseline values. The SII values showed strong positive correlations with the NLR, NMR, and PLR. Adalimumab, etanercept, and infliximab, which are TNF-& alpha; blockers, were observed to be more effective on the PLR and NLR, and especially the NMR. Conclusions: The NLR, NMR, PLR, and SII, which are data derived from routine blood tests, can be used in the monitoring of the treatment of psoriasis, especially with TNF-& alpha; blockers.Öğe Retrospective Analysis of Patients with Basal Cell Carcinoma Diagnosed in Our Clinic(Galenos Publ House, 2023) Albayrak, Hulya; Raimoglu, OnurAim: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common malignancy of the skin and its incidence is steadily increasing. The aim of our study was to reveal the clinical and demographic characteristics of BCC. Materials and Methods: The study included 273 BCC that were histopathologically diagnosed in 256 patients who admitted the Dermatology Clinic of Tekirdag Namik Kemal University between January 2014 and January 2019. The patients' age, gender, tumor histological subtype, tumor localization, and co-morbid conditions were all assessed retrospectively in the study. Results: The mean age of the 256 patients included in the study with BCC was statistically 67.67, with the youngest patient being 32 and the oldest patient being 104 years old. Of the patients, 137 were male (56.5%), and 119 were female (46.5%). The most common histopathological subtype observed was the nodular type, accounting for 61.5% (n=168), and the most frequent localization was the head and neck region, accounting for 88.3% (n=241). Conclusion: BCC is the most common epidermal malignancy of the skin, characterized by a slow growth pattern and a locally invasive nature. It often occurs in individuals aged 50 and above, particularly in the head and neck region where there is intense exposure to ultraviolet radiation. In our study, we also observed that BCC was most frequently seen in the 70-80 age range, primarily in the head and neck region, and predominantly in the nodular subtype. The superficial type was more commonly observed on the trunk. Although the incidence of BCC is similar between males and females, it tends to occur more frequently in females at younger ages.Öğe Skin infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes after the Eid Al-Adha(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2023) Safak, Birol; Albayrak, Hulya; Kurc, Mine Aydin; Gunaydin, BetulIntroduction:Streptococcus pyogenes is Gram-positive bacteria in chain form. Infections typically begin in the throat and skin, although they present with a many different clinical cases. This study aimed to present a different clinical manifestation related to S. pyogenes. Methods:In this study, swab samples were taken from patients who came to our center with skin lesions after Eid al-Adha. Identification was performed using conventional methods (bacitracin susceptibility test and PYR test) and VITEK 2 (bioMerieux, Marcy l'Etoile, France). Phylogenetic tree was generated using the Tamura Nei model of Neighbor-joining method in MEGA 6.0 program. Results:All of the isolated microorganisms were defined as S. pyogenes. Phylogenetic tree revealed that strains were highly related, but there were genetic differences between the strains. Conclusion:While Orf virus (Parapoxvirus) is the most common cause of skin lesions after Eid al-Adha, S. pyogenes was found to be the causative agent in our study. To our knowledge, cases of S. pyogenes skin infection due to religious practices have been reported for the first time.
