Evaluation of performance of agricultural producer organizations and a model proposal: Evidence from Turkey

This paper reviews the performance of agricultural producer organizations (POs) and focuses on the Logit performance model. The research was conducted in Usak, Turkey where organizational mobility has been active. The main material of the research consisted of the survey data conducted with 360 producers. The collected data were analyzed econometrically, and the independent variables according to the Logit model proposed were founded statistically significant. 89.2% of the producers was a member of the PO in the region. Organizational performance level of the POs was high. Members' satisfaction levels with being a member of the PO were 72.9% and their satisfaction levels with works of the organization's management were also 66.7%. These rates were higher than those in other research. This study will be important in terms of creating organizational management with an innovative vision and contributing to the efforts to raise members' satisfaction with the POs.
Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha and Interleukin 6 localization in the Umbilical Cord Tissue of Pregnant Women with Preeclampsia: Smokers and Non-smokers

Objective: In this study, the localization of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF- alpha) and interleukin (IL)-6 in the umbilical cord tissue of pregnant women with preeclampsia who smoke and in those who do n'ot smoke was investigated using immunohistochemical methods. Methods: The sample groups consisted of a control group, cigarette smokers, preeclampsia, and cigarette smokers with preeclampsia. Histological and immunohistochemical methods were applied to the tissue samples. Results: It was determined that there were varying degrees of edematous change in the layers of arteries and veins in the preeclampsia and the cigarette smokers with preeclampsia groups, with a statistically significant level of difference in thickness compared to the other groups. In addition, different levels of TNF-alpha and IL-6 immunoreactivity were detected in the umbilical cord tissue across all the groups. In the preeclampsia group, TNF-alpha immunoreactivitywas found to increase in the arterial muscle layer. Moreover, IL-6 immunoreactivity was found to decrease in the arterial endothelium and muscle layers in the cigarette smokers, preeclampsia, and cigarette smokers with preeclampsia groups and increase in the venous endothelium and muscle layers. In addition, immunoreactivity increased in the amniotic epithelium in the cigarette smokers with preeclampsia group. Discussion: In conclusion, the differences in cytokine levels between the cigarette smokers, preeclampsia, and cigarette smokers with preeclampsia groups were thought to be caused by responses of the maternal immune system and histopathological changes in the umbilical cord tissue.

Usage of pea protein and fibre inthe production of Tekirdağ meatball

This study evaluatedthe utilisation possibilities of pea proteinand peafibre in the production of Tekirda & gbreve; meatballs. For this purpose,Tekir-da & gbreve; meatballsampleswere supplemented with three differentratios(2%, 4% and 6%) of powder pea protein and pea fibre. After producti-on, raw and grilled Tekirda & gbreve; meatball sampleswere subjectedto somephysical and chemical analyses such as weight loss, colour,wateractivity,pH, moisture, ash, protein,fat, carbohydrate ratio and also interms of sensoryproperties.According to the results of the research,itwas foundthat 2% of pea proteinand pea fibre could be used in theformulationof Tekirda & gbreve; Meatballwithout any negative effect on thesensoryproperties of the products. Also, with this addition, meatballscan becomemore beneficial for human healthwithout changingitstraditional production method.However, further research is neededonthe use of vegetableadditivesin meatball production to improveandsupportnatural meatball productionfor human consumption
